Improvizations is a series of improvisational recordings with an intentional misspelling. Z is a more alluring and mysterious letter than S that more accurately reflects the joyful, curious, and spontaneous spirit with which this music was created. This is the first Improvizations release.

On August 24 of last year, I was contacted about playing a last minute show and jumped at the chance. Josh, Glowhazel, and I jammed after our respective sets and that recording became "Terminal Instant" on this disk. The circumstances of this fit nicely with the spontaneous nature of the music. That track alone covers a lot of ground, free noise skronk, ascendant ambient jazz, and moments of post-punk groove somehow conjured with a mountain dulcimer, guitar, and guiro.

The other 3 tracks were recorded when Clara and I visited Philadelphia in October. These are the first tracks I've ever released that could be accurately labelled as "free jazz".
